ACUPUNCTURE OR MYOFASCIAL DRY NEEDLING INVOLVES THE INSERTION OF FINE ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES INTO TRIGGER POINTS OR TIGHT BANDS OF MUSCLES AROUND THE BODY.
Lane Cove Physiotherapy uses a holistic approach to patient care, combining manual therapy, dry needling and acupuncture as an integrated approach to pain management and the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions.
This means that if the use of acupuncture or dry needling is going to be safe and effective for your condition, your physio may offer it as a recommendation for an addition to your treatment.
Dry needling and acupuncture are safe and effective methods of treatment for most conditions and used at Lane Cove Physio to alter the pain threshold and pain perception in the acute and chronic stages of injury. Our sports specialist and musculoskeletal physiotherapists are trained and accredited to use acupuncture needling techniques in our clinic. During your treatment the physiotherapist may utilize needling as a treatment technique with your consent.
Placing an acupuncture needle into the body, regardless of the underlying principle, stimulates the central and peripheral nervous systems, eliciting release of serotonin, melatonin, and endorphins—the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals.
Dry Needling is used to eradicate ‘trigger points’ in the muscle system swiftly and effectively. Trigger Points develop in muscles under tension and stress causing dysfunction, weakness and pain. Dry Needling can physically break down the trigger points, ‘resetting’ the muscle and allowing for full strength and range of movement to return.
